When
I was young, I used to read a lot of mind/body/spirit, self-help
books. One book that really uplifted me was Khalil Gibran's The
Prophet. I used to read it
every day – one half on one day and the other half the next.
However,
I was looking for practical methods to help me achieve my goals. I
wanted to attract positive things into my life – a
partner/relationship, more money, career success, etc.
All
of the mind/body/spirit, self-help books I read said that I had to be
in a positive state – mentally and emotionally positive – in
order to attract the things I wanted.
Louise
Hay was the first author I found who talked about difficulties. I
didn't realise at the time that I was suffering from childhood
trauma. I had experienced daily, sustained mental and emotional
abuse within my family for many years, but I didn't even have the
words to describe my experience. I didn't even understand what had
happened. Any time I tried to speak about what I had experienced,
people dismissed it.
And
when I went away to college, I literally thought I was going crazy
because I was out of that abusive environment which I had considered
normal up till then. I kept going to psychiatrists, saying “I
think I'm crazy”. They kept telling me, “You're not crazy”,
but beyond that, they didn't help me.
A
lot of us are recovering from childhood trauma, but we may not
realise this.
A
few years later, I discovered Louise Hay's work. She was the first
author I came across who said we need to do some healing in order to
bring about positive change. And healing is possible! Positive
change is something we can achieve! And it starts with healing the past. This felt like the sun coming
out from behind the clouds.
I
listened to her “Love Your Body” cassette until I wore it out!
I've
since learned effective ways of healing my early traumatic
experiences, and I am starting to attract more of what I want.

Unfortunately,
Louise Hay has transitioned, but fortunately, she left us a great
legacy.
